Kala Makes...
Hi, I'm Kala and I make things.

You can ask me questions here.
You can see more of my work here.
You can see a list of things I want here.
I was very happy earlier this week when i was invited to participate in Pic Knit, a knitting “expo” held in conjunction with the Cloverdale Blueberry Festival (YUM).
Pic Knit runs today from 11am to 4pm at the Surrey Museum (17710-56A Avenue) and entry is free. You can expect knitting and weaving demonstrations, craft for sale by local artists (like me!) and of course blueberries. Oh, and apparently there’ll be llamas!
If you’re in the area or want to take a short road trip, come say hi!
Parr Knitwear now available online and in stores!
Now seems like as good a time as any to announce that my Etsy shop is up and running! Only a few things available for now but I’m busy working on lots more things so keep checking back in the coming weeks!

Browse Parr here.
As well, my dear friend Misty Greer of Trunk Show has hooked me up with a sweet little bit of retail real estate at Scout Boutique (152 East 8th Avenue - just off Main Street, next to Nice Cafe). Come by this Wednesday night, April 27th, from 6pm to 9pm for the Head-to-Toe Pinup Style sale and check out stuff from Parr and other great local designers as well!
“Attend” the Facebook event here.
I just knit this little pouch necklace using kitchen twine and a beautiful toggle button my aunt gave me for Christmas.

Black Forest Cake
For some reason, people really like giving me jam. I don’t know what about me screams “Jam Eater,” but I always find myself with way more jam than I actually consume. In fact, I probably eat less jam than the average person. I just never think of it when I have toast.
Anyway, I’ve been trying to think of ways to use up all this jam, and my mom made the smart suggestion of black forest cake (mostly its just a really good excuse to make cake). Tonight I made this little guy and used strawberry jam for the filler (the cherry jam I was planning on using went bad, unfortunately).
For the frosting, I used a simple butter cream recipe with half a square of semi-sweet chocolate melted in.

Yum town! Oh, and just for kicks, here’s a little gif I made of the assembly process:

For my first article of the Spring semester, I talk about the future of Alexander McQueen since the death of Mr. McQueen in 2010. Enjoy!
